Η ημερίδα θα διεξαχθεί στην Αγγλική γλώσσα, στους χώρους του σχολείου, 8-10 Μαΐου 2014.
We are pleased to share with you the 9th Annual Conference on Learning
Differences and INNOVATION SUMMIT, to
be held on the campus of the American Community Schools of Athens, May 8-10, 2014. The theme of the
conference is, Teaching for Transformation:
Empowering all Learners.
Each year we solicit the participation of leading
educators from the US
and around the world to join us as conference presenters, speakers and workshop
leaders, offering us, as a community of educators and parents, an opportunity
to reaffirm our belief that as unique individuals, we learn in different ways.
The Conference will be held exclusively in the English
language (translation service will not be available).
Thursday and Friday will be given over entirely to four
intensive two-day institutes, each focused on one of the conference strands
(Transformative approaches to teaching second language learners with learning
differences, Transformative approaches to working with learners with ADD/ADHD,
Empowering creative and confident thinkers and learners in Mathematics and
Science, Unleashing creativity and promoting deep thinking through
cross-disciplinary learning and teaching.) Participants may enroll in one two-day institute for an
intensive, in-depth learning experience.
A new feature of the conference, the “Innovation Summit,”
will take place on Saturday morning. It will be organized as a series of
20-minute TED-style talks celebrating, promoting, championing, and predicting meaningful
innovations in our schools and lives. Small group breakout sessions will
follow, during which audience members and speakers can follow-up on the themes
raised in the talk, with a focus on the question: “What are the implications for teaching practice?”
The rest of the day Saturday will be structured as a more
typical workshop day, with participants free to choose from among the 16
individual sessions or three mini-institutes.
Participants may enroll in both the institute and Saturday program, or in only the institute program or only the
Saturday program.
Our featured speaker comes to Athens from the Boston Museum of
Science. Dr. Ioannis N. Miaoulis is the museum’s President and Director
and is the former Dean of the School
of Engineering at Tufts University.
Dr. Miaoulis will speak on Thursday afternoon, at 4:30 pm, following the
Institute session. The title of his address, open to all conference
participants, is “Transforming STEM Education: Introducing Engineering for All
Students, K-12”.
His talk will be followed by a wine & cheese
reception.
